Her recommendation for including more vegetables in our diets was, "I've found that if I mix the veggies in our main dish that they're eaten more often. I like to put spinach and peas in chicken alfredo, spinach in lasagna, etc."

It's the first day of Summer vacation, and I thought I should get back to blogging. I've been such a slacker, and for that I apologize. My hubby was diagnosed with Diabetes a few weeks ago, and it seems like right now my life revolves around carbs, meal planning, sugar-free, vegetables, glucose testing......well, you get the idea. And once life gets crazy and you get out of the habit, it's so much harder to get posting again.

These little girls are so adorable, and those big blue eyes are to die for! I had such a nice time at their house today, and then we went over to a park to get just a few shots outside. We really lucked out with the weather, as it was snowing yesterday. Today it was mid-50's and beautiful!

Oh how I need to get caught up on my blog!!! But for now I just had to throw in some pics that I took of my awesome son. Isn't he just so handsome? :)

My dear, sweet friend gave me her external flash yesterday and I needed to break it open and get practicing. So I set Wyatt up for a little practice session and got to work. I'm excited about the results, and can't wait to keep working with my new flash! Thanks, Jeannette!!!!

My awesome friend Jenn was my inspiration for these headphones shots. She took a breathtaking one of her son awhile ago, and I knew I wanted to try and do one too. It's so fun taking pics of Wyatt because he really enjoys it and has a lot of fun ideas himself. And he definitely has an eye and a brain for photography. I love that about him!!! Enjoy!

Oh my goodness, I'm such a blog slacker!!!! What with Facebook, I hardly ever remember to post my sessions here too. But I need to be better about that, so I promise I will try! :)

As for today, I just wanted to quickly put up an entry for I ♥ Faces. This week's theme is "Hands On" Fun. So the picture is supposed to focus on hands, rather than faces.

There were 2 particular shots that came to mind when I thought of what I would post. The first is a sweet picture from a session that I have yet to blog (one of the sessions that I need to catch up on!). But I decided to keep that one and just post it along with the rest of the images from that session later on.

So the one that I am going with is from an engagement session. I've shown it on my blog before, but it's one of my favorites, so I just had to enter it in this week's contest. I *LOVE* playing with depth of focus. It's so much fun!

I totally borrowed this idea from my friend Annie! It was so sweet and beautiful that I just HAD to do a bubble bath shoot with my kids. However, my bathtub is not grand or luxurious, and my bathroom is dark and uninviting, so I headed over to my sister's house and borrowed her beautiful tub! Thanks, Cindy!!!

I really hate being a woman!!!!

Cramps, headaches, sluggish feeling.......yep, it's miserable. The last thing on EARTH that I wanted to do was go take pictures, but I'm trying really hard to participate regularly on the Post of the Day {POTD} challenge. So I just grabbed a couple of old pics of Madison that I've never posted.

These were taken awhile back when she was sick. We spent the day cuddled up on my bed together and as I was watching her lay there, I thought about just how gorgeous she is. Of course I think that all of my children are cute, but there is just something about her face, her eyes, her lips....she is just a stunning little girl. So I just had to grab my camera and snap a few quick shots of her beautiful features. Breathtaking! ♥

Chelsea and Jeremy ~ Wedding!!!

I had the wonderful opportunity to attend and photograph David's little brother's wedding a couple of days ago. Chelsea and Jeremy make such a great couple and we are so excited and happy to have Chelsea as a part of our family.

Their wedding ceremony (officiated by my cute hubby!) was truly a testament of the love and support that both families and friends have for the bride and groom. Along with personalized and very touching "family vows", the ceremony included a ring warming in which the couple's rings were passed around the room so that each person in attendance could say a prayer, think positive thoughts or just share their strength and energy with the couple. It was a very beautiful and heartfelt ceremony.

And then we PARTIED!!! The after-party was a night full of fun for everyone. We all enjoyed ice skating, playing Rock Band, shooting pool, hula hooping and playing Scrabble! It was a wonderful "reception" and was so full of the spirit of these 2 wonderful people getting married.

Congratulations, Jeremy and Chelsea! We love you! Thank you for letting me share a part in your special day.

So much for the warm pictures from yesterday's post! LOL!

Today it's pics of my cutie patooties taken this morning. I asked a few of my local photographer friends to come out and shoot with me because I wanted to get some pictures of the kids in their new winter gear that they received for Christmas. Believe me, I had grand ideas and plans of darling pics of happy, rosy-cheeked children romping and playing together in the snow etc. etc. etc.

NO SUCH LUCK!!! Hyper little "Munchkin" and grumpy little "Princess" were NOT having it! I left for home feeling defeated and disappointed, only to load the pictures onto the computer and I was pleasantly surprised that I had gotten a few good ones! I have to remember that even with their grumpy faces, runny noses and Attention Deficit personalities (LOL!) they really were good sports and did at least let me get something......and that's what I'll treasure forever!

Longing for Summer

Well, it's about that time again.....The excitement of the holidays is over, the weather is cold and dreary, and I'm wishing for Summer once again! So as I was transferring some files from one computer to the other, I realized that I had a group of practice pictures from last Summer that I had not edited yet.

A group of photographer friends got together at Saltair by the Great Salt Lake and shot some fun senior pics. But right after that, I went to Denver and shot a zillion pictures, then came home from that and was inundated with NILMDTS sessions to edit, then my own client photos, and somehow in all that craziness the pictures from Saltair got pushed aside.

So, in my search for Summer today, I opened up the file and did a few edits. I just love the warm sunlight! Summer can not come soon enough!!!

Such a little angel

My beautiful niece Bailey turned 8 years old just before Christmas, and today she was baptized a member of our Church. I am so incredibly proud of the young lady that she is growing up to be. She is such a special girl, and is very smart and talented.

As part of the program after her baptism, she sang a beautiful solo and also recited (by memory, word for word) her favorite scripture passage:

Psalm 23: The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

Congratulations, sweet Bailey. Aunt Jami, Uncle David, Wyatt, Emma, Madison and Xander love you so much!!!!

Another year

Well, 2009 was definitely an interesting year, but a good one in most ways. I was able to meet and photograph some amazing new faces and also some great friends. Thank you so much to all of my clients for your business and for your friendships. Every photographer seems to say this, but I really do have the greatest clients!!!

Here are just some of my favorite images from 2009. Of course some are favorites for photography related technical reasons, but others are favorites for the emotions that they invoke for me.........

It's incredible how many of these pictures are from my photography "get-together" in Colorado this past summer. When I look at these pictures (like the one above) I get teary eyed and a huge grin spreads across my face. When I think back on 2009, that trip will forever be etched on my heart. The friends that I have made and the things that I have learned through photography are so much a part of me now.

So, thank you! Thank you to all of my photography friends (those that I've met in real life and those that I've only met in my heart) for the help, the encouragement, the laughs, the prayers, the constructive criticism and most importantly, the love. xoxoxoxoxoxo

One year ago.....

I opened my email today and found a reminder from the NILMDTS Headquarters, stating that my $25 annual renewal fee is now due. This means that I have been with NILMDTS for one year.

One year.

One year ago I wrote THIS post on my old blog, and my life hasn't been the same since.

I can't believe it's been a year already. I feel extremely blessed and honored every time I enter a hospital room, knowing that I will have a hand in helping this family heal. Knowing that I am providing them with a precious gift that will mean so much to them for years to come.

Today I am remembering the 23 sweet little angels that I have been fortunate enough to meet, and their families who have touched my life so greatly. Tomorrow (October 15th) is the day set aside for Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness. Please take time to remember your friend, sister, neighbor, sister-in-law, mother, aunt, grandmother or anyone else that you might know that has suffered the death of a baby. Show them that you care and that you remember.

I know, I'm such a slacker. It's been ages since I remembered to do this, but at least I remembered this time!

This week's was a fun one because a friend on 2 Peas asked if anyone had suggestions for their family pictures, so I decided to give it a go. She wanted to use a blue/brown color combo with jeans and she needed outfit suggestions for 2 boys (ages 5 years and 12 months), one girl (6 months) and 2 men (her husband and brother).

So I guess this week can also be a "non-traditional" family picture. After all, families with 2 daddies need pictures too! :c) (All clothes are from Gap and Old Navy, except the little girl's dress which is from Kohls.)

I was so excited when my friend Andrea asked me to photograph the birth of her 3rd son, Dylan. I have been wanting to break into birth photography for awhile now, and was so honored to be able to share in and document their special day.

These people are so much fun!!! They were basically my second family when I was growing up, so it was so nice to be able to get together with all of them again and see all of the beautiful grandchildren too!!!

This cute guy is an actor and was in A Christmas Carol with my son and husband last year. Auditions are coming up again for the show and he needed a new headshot, so it was fun to be able to take that for him as well.

Farrah's Maternity Session | Utah Maternity Photographer

It has taken me so long to get some of my Denver pictures posted, but I just HAD to hurry and post these ones, as today is the last day that this gorgeous gal will be pregnant! Farrah is having her baby tomorrow!

Isn't she just a beautiful pregnant mommy? Farrah is one of the incredible photographers that I met on a photography forum over the past few years. Last year at about this time, one of the photographers (in Australia) mentioned that she was going to be visiting her sister in August of 2009 and would anyone like to get together. Well, it spread from there and over the last year we have been planning and arranging for models etc.

It was such a fantastic, energizing, entertaining experience for me. I learned so much from watching these talented ladies and I feel as though I have known them forever! The friendships that I was able to form will stay with me forever.

You may have seen some of my pictures on Facebook, but stay tuned for even more!!!! We had THE. MOST. GORGEOUS engaged couple that we shot in the Arts District of Downtown Denver (even in the middle of the street!) and some of the most adorable and photogenic kids on the planet! and an absolutely beautiful "bride" (who is also one of the photographers in our group) for a Trash the Dress session.......so much fun!!!!

But for now, enjoy some of Farrah's lovely maternity pics!

Oh, and just to give you an idea of how cute this baby is going to be......here is "N", Farrah's cute little boy. He was fascinated with my phone all weekend, and I was so enamored with him (I mean, he is ADORABLE!) I let him play with it just so he'd be my friend! LOL! :)

Donation questions answered

I have had several people asking about making donations to Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep, so I thought I would post about this and give some info that might be useful.

All monetary donations to the organization need to be made directly to the headquarters in Colorado. This can be done by visiting their WEBSITE or by sending a check to:

I have also had folks ask me about how they can support the NILMDTS photographers in Utah. There are several great ways that can be done. As a photographer for this organization, we each make a small annual donation of $25 to belong to the Photographers' Forum and to support its maintenance. If you would like to help support a specific photographer (or photographers) in your area, the best way is to pay for their forum membership for a year. They would certainly be grateful! You can specify their names in a small note with your donation.

Also, the photographers with our organization spend their own money on gas to drive to and from the hospitals, blank CD's and DVD's to give to the families with their images and slideshows, and packaging/mailing supplies to send the images to the families that we serve. Another great way to support your local NILMDTS photographers is to give gift cards for local gas stations, blank CD's and DVD's, CD jewel cases and padded mailing envelopes and stamps.

Also, if your church group, family or just yourself are ever looking for a service project to do, NILMDTS is always in need of many handmade and store-bought items, such as:

tiny baby blankets (crocheted, cloth etc.)
tiny baby hats and booties
delicate beaded bracelets (one for Mom and a matching one for Baby)
tiny stuffed animals to photograph with the baby and then give the family as a rememberance
memory boxes (decorated craft boxes) for the family to keep tokens of rememberance in

How often do you get the kids' school pictures back and they have a fake smile on their face, or no smile at all, or their glasses are askew, or they have a milk mustache from breakfast.....the list goes on and on. Lately, even when the kids' pictures look cute, I don't really like them because they don't show their true personalities.

Now you can get their pictures done in a comfortable and relaxed environment, and get a picture you will truly love. Then just buy the class picture from school and you're good!

Wednesday's Wardrobe | Utah maternity photographer

I've had a great response to the free maternity, newborn and birth sessions! But if you are still interested, let me know and I will fit you in! I ♥ me some babies!!!! One of the questions that I got regarding a maternity session was about clothing choices, so I thought I would use this "Wednesday's Wardrobe" to talk about clothes for a maternity session. With a maternity session, it's always fun to switch things up a bit and do some shots with various outfits. So don't be afraid to bring a few clothing changes!

One really nice, easy suggestion is a "Basic & Relaxed" look. Think yoga pants and a fitted t-shirt. Remember, the point of a maternity session is to show off your beautiful belly. Years ago (even just a few years ago) the style for maternity clothing was to try and conceal a woman's pregnant belly. But recently the style has become more comfortable with showing off the belly, and I love it! You don't have to actually SHOW the belly, but wear clothing that doesn't purposely hide it. Wearing a classic fitted tee will look great in pictures, to accentuate your baby bump!

Another really fun combination is a cute tank top or fun camisole, to add just a bit of sexiness without making you feel uncomfortable. Pair that with a low-waist blue jeans worn under your belly, and you'll look super sexy but still comfortable.

If you want a bit dressier look for your pictures, there are lots of fun and beautiful maternity dresses and skirts out there. I tend to prefer solid colors for maternity photos so that the focus is on the belly, but you could of course wear a funky patterned dress as well. But if you do choose a solid top and a skirt or a solid dress, you can always add a pattern or a punch with some fun accessories, like a scarf.

This is one of my favorite looks for maternity pictures.....a classic button-down shirt and jeans. But the trick to this combination is that the shirt is only buttoned about halfway down, leaving the rest open to reveal your baby bump! And don't worry about finding maternity jeans, just throw on your pre-pregnancy jeans and leave them unbuttoned below your belly. Even those women who are very modest in their everyday clothing choices should not feel uncomfortable showing their belly in their portraits.

For several of these outfits, bare feet will be perfect. (If your session is outdoors you can always wear some flip-flops or sandals and then take them off for the pictures.)

So there are some ideas for maternity session clothing! I hope that helps someone, and remember to contact me if you are interested in one of the FREE maternity, newborn or birth sessions.

I am currently looking to expand my portfolio in the areas of maternity, birth and newborn photography. So I am giving away some free sessions in these areas!

Models will receive a free maternity, birth or newborn session, as well as (1) 8x10 and (2) 5x7 prints from their session.

Maternity photography: Maternity photos are best done in the 7th or 8th month of pregnancy--far enough along to have a nice "baby bump", but not so far that you are incredibly uncomfortable and ready to pop! :c) These sessions can be done pretty much anywhere that you feel comfortable. If you want the classic look of a black background we can set up a make-shift studio in your home. Or the pictures can be done in the baby's nursery or other parts of your home. But don't forget that outdoors can be an incredible backdrop for this type of art as well. Wherever you choose to do your session, please keep in mind that I am primarily a natural-light photographer and will need adequate light to get the best pictures for you.

Newborn photography: Newborn sessions are best done in the first 10 days of the baby's life, while baby is still curling up and sleeping a lot. These sessions are done in your home (or a relative's home if that's better for you) and are very relaxed. I am happy to wait for you to feed the baby, rock the baby, whatever is necessary to keep her content and sleepy....perfect for sweet newborn photos.

Birth photography: This is a fairly new concept for most people, and not everyone is comfortable with it. That's completely understandable, and believe me, as a mother of 4 I know what their hesitancy might be. But let me assure you that birth photography is an amazing way to document your birth experience. The photos are all done in a very tasteful, discrete way and my presence in your birthing room will be quiet and non-invasive. The band on my ring broke so it's been at the jewelers getting fixed. It was finished a couple of weeks ago, but since our jeweler is downtown, I didn't get a chance to go get it until today.

It's amazing how much I missed wearing it! I love my ring so much! I love that the center stone is set down into the ring (I think it's called a bezel setting) so that I don't have to worry about catching it on things.

I remember the moment I first saw it. David and I picked it out together and it was exactly what I wanted. We had to wait for it to be ready for us, and David didn't want me to know when it was done. I kept asking him everyday if it was ready yet, but he just kept saying no. Then one night before he went to rehearsal for "Love is for the Byrds" at Hale Theater, he took me to Temple Square, got down on one knee in front of the Tabernacle, and asked me to marry him. He pulled out my gorgeous ring, and quoted a line from one of our favorite plays "The Hasty Heart"....."I give you my heart, for it does me no good without you". *swoon!!!*

And today my ring looks just like it did that night. So shiny and sparkly!!!! But I love it even more today than I did that night almost 12 years ago. Because now it holds so many memories and so much time spent with the man I love more and move everyday. ♥♥♥

Finally getting around to posting pictures of our vacation to Kamas. We stayed in a really cute cabin, with some really cute friends! David and the kids were performing in Utahoma for Kamas' Fiesta Days, so we decided to spend a few days there, and we had a great time.

The kids had fun playing in the "sand" (aka Dirt), playing in the treehouse, playing Grandma's Wii, and playing games. It was so wonderful to hear their giggles, see their dirt covered faces smiling, and to spend some quality time with them. We also went to a local swimming pool which was really fun, but I didn't take my camera that day. The kids (and the adults) loved the waterslide and the lazy river. "Buddha" and "Beanie" both jumped off the diving board for the first time too! After the pool, we went to lunch at Dairy Keen in Heber. Thanks so much to Holly for suggesting it, because it was AWESOME! Delicious burgers, and the absolute yummiest shakes we've ever had. David and I shared a strawberry/cheesecake shake, and there were chunks of real strawberries and pieces of cheesecake in it. SO YUMMO!

This was the scenery that I woke up to every morning.....a gorgeous view and cute smiling faces sitting in their robes, excited for the day ahead. It was Heaven!

One day "Beanie" and I went for a little drive and she was so excited to see horses just walking around without a fence or anything. She LOVES horses, so I told her to get out and I'd take her picture. So she stood by the side of the grass and I got a picture of her with the horses far away. All of a sudden they started moving closer to us....fast! So I hurried and took a few more pictures. Then suddenly they were only a few feet away from us and "Beanie" started getting a bit nervous. So we got back in the car and they kept coming closer. Now, mind you, I don't have a really long zoom lens or anything. These pictures show just how close the horses were to us. I took a few more pictures from the open car window, and then one of the horses stuck his head RIGHT IN THE WINDOW! We were freaking out but laughing so hard at this point. I hurried and rolled up the window as soon as he pulled his head out, and then he started sniffing and licking our windshield! It was such a funny experience, and one that I'm sure "Beanie" won't soon forget!

I'm so grateful that we were able to take this short but sweet vacation together. It was so rejuvinating and relaxing, and we just had such a fabulous time!

This week I just dressed Mom and Daughter......what little girl wouldn't love to get dressed up and get her pictures taken with Mommy???

Red, white and black are a classic look, that I don't think will ever go out of style. My favorite combination is mostly black/white with just a hint of red, using accessories. A big chunky red bracelet, a thin red belt, or (as seen in this example) a fun red hat and shoes.

Mom's outfit is very simple but has gives a great statement with her stylish shoes, and Daughter's dress is more bold and looks really cute paired with a funky over-sized hat. So fun!!!

But the other thing I love about this kind of combination is that your accent color doesn't HAVE to be red! It would look just as cute with a bright blue, or a hot pink, or even a warm yellow. It's so versatile!!!

Ok, so no one took me up on the challenge, so here's another group of outfits that I chose on my own. Have I ever mentioned how much I **ADORE** Shabby Apple's Shabby Baby clothing? Seriously, these dresses are to die for!

(Anyone who knows my kids' Grandmas.....pass the word along that my girls would look super duper cute in these dresses....hint, hint!)

So today's outfits are for Mom, Dad and 2 little girls (in my head I was thinking twins, but then again it could just be like my girls who aren't twins but are super close in age). This print dress is one of my very favorites from Shabby Baby, and I just love the simplicity of the turquoise one too. Of course you can spruce Mom's outfit up just a tad with some fun, funky jewelry or even a scarf (I'm thinking browns and turquoise) and you've got a great group photo!!!

I'm late again, I know. We got back from the cabin yesterday, so I technically could have posted in time, but I was so tired I figured it could wait until today.

So, on to the clothes! Navy and gray are 2 of my very favorite colors together. I think they look so polished and so classic. So when I saw this cute dress at Old Navy, I knew I wanted to use it for Wednesday's Wardrobe. It might not look cute on everyone (me included!) but like everything I post, you can use it as an idea to find something for your body type.

Usually I use a pattern or the more busy piece for one of the kids, but this time I thought Dad needed to be the center of attention a little bit. Then for the little girl I kept it very basic with a cute navy shirt and denim skirt. So I hope you enjoy this combination!

Okay, so I'm 40 minutes late with this, but I have a good excuse! I went to see Harry Potter!!! (and I loved it, by the way)

So this week is just the kids, and I did 2 boys and 2 girls again (gee, I wonder why that seems so familiar to me!). And just look how lovely these outfits look with my new logo!

The thing I love most about this selection is the textures and layers. Add a cardigan to one of the dresses, some cute (and oh so stylin') leg warmers to the other little girl, a hat to one of the boys.....an awesome way to add textures and layers.

Notice that I put the hat with the plain shirt, rather than the boy's shirt with stripes. The striped shirt not only has a pattern, but it is also the brightest color. That little guy doesn't really need anything else. Whereas the brown shirt is a little more boring on it's own and the hat can jazz it up just a tad.

All of these clothes can be found at The Gap and Old Navy! (and I couldn't find a good picture to use, but how cute would the brown dress look with cowboy boots!!!!) LOVE IT!

My husband and I have a friend who has suffered from kidney problems his entire life, but in the past several months his condition has become quite serious. When word got out that he was desperately in need of a kidney transplant, his family and friends began to rally together in different ways to help. Several people volunteered to be tested as donors, but for one reason or another no one was a match. Then one day we found out that another friend of ours was finally approved as a match!

Paul had his double nephrectomy (the removal of his kidneys) last week and is doing well, all things considered. His transplant surgery will be on August 4th.

As they continue to move forward with the transplant, many people have been trying to find ways to raise funds for Paul. This procedure and the medication he'll need for the rest of his life are both VERY expensive.

David and I (like so many people) do not have thousands of dollars to donate, but have a great desire to try and help in some way. Recently I read an article about a photographer in England that decided to sell greeting cards to raise money for charity, and I thought that I might be able to do something like that. But since I am primarily a portrait photographer, I did not have a huge selection of non-people images that I could use. Then I thought about the fantastic photographer friends that I have made and their incredibly generous spirits. I put a call out to those that might be able to help, and have been so pleased with the support and willingness to contribute their images.

So that is how "Cards for Paul's Kidney" began, and I hope that we will be able to raise a good amount of funds for Paul. Feel free to visit the blog and leave a comment, purchase some cards, or just look around at the beautiful images.

Please be generous with your giving, and buy lots of cards (remember they never go out of style, never expire, and are always needed and useful). "Do you have any suggestions for what we should wear for our pictures?"

This is a question that nearly every client asks me when scheduling their portrait session.

Believe me, having just gone through family pictures with my own family, I know the stress of trying to figure out what we would wear. I knew that I wanted lots of color, and I found these super cute plaid shorts for my oldest son, so I based all of our outfits around those shorts.

I also wanted to use as much from our own closets or thrift stores that I could, so I started with a plan and then was open to changes depending on what I could find.

So here is what I started out with......

I ended up hating how I looked in a jean jacket, so I nixed that idea. I was able to find quite a bit of what I had been looking for for the kids in their own closets, so I mostly just had to make a few color changes. But because my son's shorts have so many colors, this wasn't too big of an issue.

So here's what we ended up with......

In most cases, I tell my clients 4 main things to remember when picking their outfits:

1) Stay away from logos and lots of patterns. There are, of course, exceptions to this rule, such as limiting the pattern to one family member and then coordinate everyone else based on that --- An example of this is what I did with my son's shorts. This is definitely one of my favorite coordinating techniques.

2) Try to add some interest to your outfits with textures, layers and accessories --- Some examples of this would be adding a jacket, a ruffled skirt, chunky bracelets, leggings or a fun hat.

3) Avoid wearing lots of white, if possible --- White is not always flattering on everyone and also has a tendency to take on the colors of your surroundings.

4) Wear clothing and colors that you will be comfortable in --- This is the most important of all. If you or your children are uncomfortable and fidgeting with their clothing, it will show in your pictures.

So I thought I would try to put together some ideas that might help you pick your outfits for your portraits. Another photographer and I are working together to post some cute clothing options and I will (hopefully!) post a new idea each Wednesday.

Remember that I am not telling you to go out and buy all new clothes, unless you really want to, and in that case I'm certainly not going to stop you! But these posts will give you suggestions on color combinations, adding layers and textures, and ideas for using your existing pieces.

So today's collection is for a family of 6: Mom, Dad, 2 girls and 2 boys. Here is one time where patterns work together, and compliment each other nicely. Mom could also add fun earrings or even a scarf for some great texture. These pieces were found at Gymboree, Old Navy and The Gap.

My lovely and very sweet friend Margaret took our family's pictures a couple of weeks ago, and they turned out so cute! I don't even hate the ones with me in them, and that's saying something! :c)

Of course getting a good picture of "Munchkin" is nearly impossible these days since he is constantly on the go, but we were lucky to get a few with him!

I LOVE this one!!! My girls are such cutie patooties!!!!

Awwww!!!! My "Buddha" is such a sweetheart.....and I love that it says "MW" in the background. Perfect for us!

The love of my life! We hardly have any pictures of the 2 of us together, and especially not one where he isn't making a face, so to me this is priceless! :c)

And this is my favorite one of the bunch.......my favorite people, laughing together and loving each other. What could be better?

Swimming! | Utah photographer

"Buddha" started swimming lessons a couple of weeks ago, and has been doing such a great job. Me not being a morning person, it took some getting used to, having him there bright and early. But it was so worth it to see him progress and enjoy what he was doing.

Of course, the girls and "Munchkin" only enjoyed watching for the first day, then after that they got bored pretty quickly. So what better way to spend the time than posing for the camera and putting rubber bands on their faces?

As soon as they saw how much fun "Buddha" was having, they all wanted to go swimming too, and since the weather has been CRAZY rainy, we decided to take advantage of the indoor pool. They all love the water and it's so nice to get in and play with them.

Yep, I've been a total blog slacker lately. Honestly I haven't had much to blog about. The weather here has been absolutely crazy, and I haven't been out taking as many pictures as I would like. I am sincerely looking forward to nicer Spring weather.

Most of the photos I have taken recently have been for NILMDTS. In the last month I have held 4 sweet angels and logged over 180 miles. NILMDTS photographers don't seem to be as busy up here in the Ogden area, but I still have a very strong need to help. So I have been offering to do sessions down in the valley whenever I can. It's more of a challenge and a sacrifice to get there, more of an expense for gas, but in no way comparable to how blessed I feel to be doing this important work.

So until I have a chance to post some more pictures, I leave you with another article about Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep. I cannot stress enough the significance of this incredible organization and the importance of spreading the word about it. So many families leave the hospital without their baby, without any tangible remembrance of their child and longing for something more. So many people do not understand why anyone would ever want to have pictures of their deceased or terminally ill child, not understanding how healing and comforting these images are.

Please make it a point to let people know about this organization. If you ever know of someone who finds out that their baby has a terminal birth defect or has just lost their child, please tell them about NILMDTS.

It's contest time again over at I ♥ Faces!!! I am so excited to have won 5th place last week in the Kids category....What a complete honor! My adorable little niece "T" made it so easy to take a great picture.

This week's theme is right up my alley.....No Flash!!! Considering that I don't even own an external flash and loathe to use my pop-up, I am drawn to natural light. There is really nothing like it. It can create such beautiful photos and incredible catchlights in the subject's eyes.

I was going to head outside tomorrow and try to get some new shots, but it's going to be crappy weather and I just don't really feel like dealing with all that. So, my shots for this week's contest are a couple of old ones again. Maybe next week I'll be able to get something new.

I've had several requests and inquiries about purchasing a temple print like the one that I offered in the contest on my other blog. At first I wasn't sure I wanted to sell it, but after thinking about it a bit more, I have decided to make 10 prints available for purchase.

They will all be mounted in the same way as the one for the contest (3/4" standard mount, ready to be hung without a frame) and will be available in 3 sizes. The prices are listed below:

Fix-It-Friday ~ Dimpled Darling

It's "Fix-It-Friday" on the I ♥ Faces Blog.....basically they put up a picture that could use some help, and you can take it and work on it in your own way and see what great results you come up with. This is the first time I've participated, but I really enjoyed it!! It is nice to get my brain working and trying different solutions to make a cute photo even better.

Here's the original photo......it's a darling picture, with a super cute subject, but it is underexposed which makes it pretty dark.

The photo was a JPEG, but I still used ACR to open it and tweak some of the settings. I brightened it up a bit and adjusted the contrast and coloring a tad. His face was pretty red so I took that down a little, but you can tell that his cheeks are naturally rosy so I wanted to leave some of the redness so he didn't look pale.

I also cropped the photo in a bit closer, to get rid of some of the green background. I liked some green showing, but too much makes it distracting. I also wanted to keep his eyes in the top 1/3 of the picture, to add focus.

So here's my basic fix:

And a Black & White version....I really like my black & whites with quite a bit of contrast.

And just for fun, using a couple of my favorite actions. This is a blue vintage from my sweet friend Jess. It is so gorgeous, especially with outdoor pictures....I love it!!

And another gorgeous action, also from Jess. This one is a freebie called Hazy Days, and it too is gorgeous on outdoor photos.

Then I decided to try a horizontal crop. I really like this one because again it uses the rule of thirds with his eyes to keep the focus on him.

For this picture I used a black & white layer on top of the regular color layer and changed the opacity of the black & white to make the picture kind of desaturated.

And just for fun again, a funky black & white action called Green Tea. I think it came from Coffee Shop Rita.

It's kind of "angelic" and I think that's why I like it. It definitely wouldn't work for every picture, but it's fun to use occasionally.

I'm so excited, I'm doing my happy dance!!!!

I still have a few things to add (I'm finalizing my pricing structure, writing an info section, clothing choice info etc.) but for the most part, it's done!

I am so proud of it....I actually cried last night when I realized how proud I was. It feels like a huge accomplishment for me. I didn't do it all by myself though. David was such a great help with it, and has been such an awesome support.

Thanks again to all of my portfolio-building clients.....you're all awesome!!!!

(oh, and make sure you have your sound turned on when you look at the site.....I was able to get some really great music to use)

My new 50mm lens!

So I went out today and played around with this new toy.......

....and got some incredibly cute pictures of "Princess". She was more than willing to pose for me, and I was thrilled with the quality of pictures I was able to get with my new lens.

(don't mind my dirty car....she insisted on posing next to it!)

Thank you again soooooo much to whoever sent me this awesome blessing. I am just still so overwhelmed with gratitude, and just love it so much!

After a week of teething misery with new molars, "Munchkin" finally has some smiles for me!
(And his gorgeous dimple even decided to make an appearance!)

Just in the last few weeks, he has really grown attached to his blue blanket and takes it everywhere he goes. He even has to have it on his highchair tray while he eats!
He loving refers to it as his "Wanket".

He's just such a beautiful child.....don't you just want to eat him up?!

And just for fun, here is "Princess", "Munchkin" and I trying our hand at a self-portrait!
If my arms were a bit longer, I could have gotten more of "Munchkin" in the picture!

Valentine's/Graduation

How freaking gorgeous is my friend Deanna?! I had so much fun taking shots of her as a gift for her husband. She wanted to do something special for him for Valentine's and also his graduation from the University of Utah. Wow, this was harder than I thought it would be. My initial plan was to sit down and pick out 5 or maybe
10 of my favorite shots of 2008. But considering that I am possibly the most indecisive person ever, there was
no way I could narrow it down that much.

So I just decided to include as many of my favorites as I wanted! Some are favorites for personal or emotional reasons. Some because they are my best work so far. Some because they are artistic. And of course some for no reason at all except that I love them!

Another NILMDTS session

At about 9:30 p.m., our Area Coordinator sent out a request for a photographer to go out to a hospital for a session. At 11:00 p.m. the mother was ready to push, so I headed over to the hospital.

Sweet little "H" was born just before midnight and never took a breath. He was 22 weeks, and his mom got a bad infection so they had to deliver him early. He was just beautiful, with long fingers and gorgeous lips.

Once again, I am so grateful to be a part of this incredible organization, and for the amazing people that I am able to meet because of it.

This was my first time shooting in this gorgeous location, and this beautiful family fit perfectly there. (You might remember them from the newborn session I did last month.) Little "E" and baby "M" looked so sweet in their Christmas dresses, and I even got to meet Grandma!

Back to one of my favorite locations with such a sweet family. The morning before our session, I woke-up to find that my van had a flat tire. So I called them to say that I might not be able to make it to do the pictures, and Mom told me that her husband could come and fix it for me. 10 minutes later he was in my driveway and my tire is now good as new! When we were doing the pictures, I told the kids that their Dad was my hero that day and Mom smiled and said "He's my hero everyday"! How cute is that!?

So here are my favorites and I hope you guys love them too!

Just a reminder about ordering holiday cards! If I've done pictures for your family already and you'd like to order cards, just let me know which picture and which card...easy as that! If I haven't done your pictures yet, there's still time to set up an appointment. I have 8 more appointments open before Christmas, but only 3 of those are before Thanksgiving, which is the deadline for holiday cards.

Also, if you're just not interested in having pictures done this time, but would like to have me make some cards for you, that's fine too!

I've added a few new ones to the mix, so there are even more fun cards to choose from. Remember that on most cards, the colors and text are changeable, so if you see a design that you like but you're not crazy about the colors or the wording, just let me know and I'll see what I can do.

If you have pictures done with me, the price for the cards is $20 for a pack of 25 cards w/envelopes. If you'd like me to create a card using your own picture, the price is $30 for a pack of 25 cards w/envelopes.

1st NILMDTS session

I went on my first call for NILMDTS yesterday, and it was an incredible experience. I didn't actually shoot any pictures, as I was just shadowing another photographer, but I was still able to form a connection with Baby "G" and his family.

The photographer that I was with told me that this case was very different from what she usually sees, as the baby was still living and wasn't connected to any wires or tubes. This sweet little boy is 2 months old and just beautiful. One day, just out of the blue, he developed an infection in his brain, and now has brain damage and won't live much longer. The family was so amazing, and the experience was unlike anything I've ever been involved in.

I feel extremely honored and humbled to be a part of this incredible organization, and for the opportunity to meet these beautiful families and their sweet angels.

This family is so beautiful, and the location they chose was equally as gorgeous! I had never been there before, and this time of year was just perfect there. The colors were just incredible! These boys "W" and "T" were lots of fun, and they were so great their little sister "N". She, by the way, is one of the most gorgeous little girls I have ever seen.

Their whole family dynamic was just so fun, and I'm so glad I got to spend the morning with them!

This one is just so sweet, I think. Big brother "W" was so sweet and loving to little "N" the whole time. What an awesome brother.

Oh, the colors!!!!! It's like a painting!

The kids all wanted to pose as lion statues.....they crack me up!

This family is so cute, and these boys are just full of energy. It was so fun chasing them around, but boy did they wear me out! We only had Chris (Dad) with us for a little while, but I think we got some great shots, especially of Heather & Chris together. And on that note, how gorgeous is Heather!? I told her that she is way too pretty not to get a shot of just her, and lucky for me she gave in. Enjoy!

Yes, I know it's not even quite Halloween, but if you're like me you start thinking of Christmas gifts way before December.

Andrea Fife over at Photo Finish Memories used the pictures from my photo session with her family and created an awesome 5x7 album for some of her family members. It turned out so great! Andrea creates fabulous memory books with your pictures, titles and journaling and she will work closely with you to make sure that your book meets your expectations, and fits the style you want. Custom memory books would make an awesome gift for everyone, especially grandparents, husbands or even a fun little stocking stuffer for yourself!

I had so much fun shooting all of you, and am really happy with the way the pictures turned out.
